Joseph Nivas, Hassan

The Jesuit mission in Hassan began in 1957 under the leadership of Fr. John Aranha, SJ, with a modest primary school. Over the decades, the mission has grown into a vibrant educational center serving the region through St. Joseph’s High School, an independent English Medium School, a Pre-University College, and a Degree College located on a separate campus. Today, more than 2,200 students benefit from the holistic and value-based education offered through these institutions.

The community is served by eight Jesuits engaged in various educational and pastoral ministries. A newly constructed Jesuit residence provides a vibrant space for community life and mission. The institutions also operate separate hostels for boys and girls, ensuring access to quality education for students from diverse backgrounds. Over the years, St. Joseph’s has been a fertile ground for nurturing vocations to the priesthood, contributing both to the Society of Jesus and the local dioceses.

Looking to the future, the community is committed to enhancing educational excellence through a planned transition to the CBSE curriculum and by exploring affiliation with St. Aloysius University, subject to the necessary approvals.
