Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya (CBSE), Mundgod
Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya (CBSE), Mundgod is a distinguished Jesuit educational institution committed to providing holistic, value-based, and transformative education to students from diverse backgrounds. Situated in the serene surroundings of Salagaon Village, Mundgod Taluk, Uttara Kannada District, the school combines academic excellence with character formation, leadership development, and social responsibility in the rich tradition of Jesuit education.
The institution is managed by the Fathers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. Jesuit institutions across the world are renowned for their dedication to intellectual excellence, ethical values, and the formation of compassionate and socially responsible individuals.
A Journey Rooted in Service and Vision
The Jesuit educational mission in Mundgod began with a deep commitment to serving rural and marginalized communities through quality education. Recognising the educational challenges faced by children in remote villages — including poverty, migration, and limited access to schools — the Karnataka Jesuits established institutions aimed at empowering young people through learning and human formation.
Under the visionary leadership of Rev. Fr. Lawrence Pinto SJ, the Loyola educational mission in Mundgod began with the establishment of Loyola Higher Primary School in 1991 with just 34 students. The mission expanded steadily with the founding of Loyola High School in 1995 and Loyola PU College in 2003, creating a strong educational foundation in the region.
Continuing this legacy of growth and excellence, Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya (CBSE) was established in 2014 to provide nationally recognised CBSE education rooted in Jesuit values and holistic formation. Since its inception, the institution has steadily grown into one of the leading CBSE schools in the region, serving students from different social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Jesuit Philosophy of Education
Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya is inspired by the Jesuit vision of forming “men and women for others.” The institution believes that education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge but the formation of the whole person — intellectually competent, morally upright, emotionally balanced, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible.
The school focuses on three essential dimensions of Jesuit education:
- Academic Excellence
- Character Formation
- Social Concern
Guided by the Ignatian ideal of Magis — striving for greater excellence in all things — the institution encourages students to cultivate discipline, leadership, creativity, compassion, and a spirit of service.
Academic Excellence and Holistic Formation
Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya provides a dynamic and student-centred curriculum that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and experiential learning. The institution combines modern educational practices with strong moral and ethical values to ensure the all-round development of students.
The school offers a balanced environment where equal importance is given to academics, sports, cultural activities, leadership programmes, environmental awareness, and co-curricular participation. Through various activities and initiatives, students are encouraged to discover their talents, build confidence, and develop a sense of responsibility towards society.
A Campus that Inspires Learning
The institution provides a safe, inclusive, and nurturing campus atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth. Well-equipped classrooms, activity-based learning opportunities, sports facilities, and cultural programmes create an environment where students are empowered to excel in every sphere of life.
The school also fosters harmony, mutual respect, and inclusiveness by welcoming students from all communities and backgrounds, reflecting the universal values of Jesuit education.
Vision for the Future
Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mundgod continues to carry forward the Jesuit mission of transforming lives through education. Rooted in faith, justice, excellence, and service, the institution remains committed to shaping future generations into compassionate leaders, responsible citizens, and agents of positive social change.
