St. Joseph’s Primary and High School, Hassan
St. Joseph’s Primary and High School, Hassan is one of the oldest and most respected educational institutions in the region, dedicated to providing quality education rooted in Jesuit values and traditions. Managed by the Fathers of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, the institution has played a significant role in shaping generations of students through holistic and value-based education.
The Jesuits are globally renowned for their commitment to intellectual excellence, character formation, and service to society. Inspired by this vision, St. Joseph’s Primary and High School continues to nurture young minds with a strong foundation in academics, discipline, leadership, and compassion.
A Rich Heritage of Service and Education
The history of St. Joseph’s Institutions in Hassan dates back to 1957, when Rev. Fr. John Aranha SJ established St. Joseph’s Primary School in a rented house at K.R. Puram, Hassan. What began as a humble initiative soon grew into a flourishing educational mission dedicated to serving children and families in and around Hassan.
In 1961, the school was shifted to its new campus at Saraswathipuram on Salagame Road, marking an important milestone in the institution’s growth. During the same period, the St. Joseph’s Higher Primary Kannada Medium School was established, followed by the launch of the English Medium School in 1962. These developments reflected the institution’s commitment to making quality education accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.
Over the decades, St. Joseph’s Institutions expanded steadily, evolving into a comprehensive educational campus that today includes nursery, primary, high school, pre-university, and degree college sections under the guidance of the Hassan Jesuit Educational Society (HJES).
