St. Joseph’s College of Law (SJCL), Bengaluru is a premier Jesuit institution dedicated to legal education, academic excellence, ethical leadership, and social justice. Managed by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society (BJES) under the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, the institution continues the rich Jesuit tradition of forming intellectually competent, ethically grounded, and socially responsible professionals.

Established in the academic year 2017–2018, St. Joseph’s College of Law is recognized as the first Jesuit Law College in South Asia. The history of SJCL is deeply connected to the long and distinguished Josephite educational tradition in Bengaluru, which began in 1882 with the establishment of St. Joseph’s College by the Paris Foreign Mission Fathers. In 1937, the administration of the St. Joseph’s Institutions was entrusted to the Jesuit Fathers, who expanded and strengthened the educational mission through schools, colleges, management institutes, and social outreach programmes. Inspired by this rich heritage of over a century of Jesuit education, the Bangalore Jesuit Society established St. Joseph’s College of Law to create a centre of legal learning that integrates academic rigour with ethical responsibility and social commitment. The institution is affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Hubballi and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI), New Delhi.

Located in the heart of Bengaluru, SJCL has steadily emerged as a vibrant centre for legal studies known for its learner-centred environment, academic discipline, and holistic student formation.
