St. Joseph’s College, Hassan is a Jesuit institution dedicated to higher education, academic excellence, and holistic human formation. Managed by the Hassan Jesuit Educational Society (HJES) under the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, the institution continues the Jesuit mission of empowering youth through value-based education rooted in faith, justice, leadership, and service.
Located near Dairy Circle, B. Katihalli, Hassan, the college was established in 2009 as part of the expanding Jesuit educational mission in the region. St. Joseph’s University The institution emerged from the rich educational legacy of St. Joseph’s Institutions, Hassan, whose history dates back to 1957, when the Jesuits began their educational ministry in Hassan with the establishment of schools aimed at serving the educational needs of rural and economically marginalized communities.
Historically, the Jesuit mission in Hassan focused on providing accessible and holistic education to first-generation learners and socially disadvantaged students. Over the decades, the St. Joseph’s Institutions expanded steadily with the establishment of nursery, primary, high school, PU, and degree college sections, creating a strong educational network in the region.
St. Joseph’s College was founded with the vision of extending quality undergraduate education to students from Hassan and neighbouring rural areas who aspired for higher education but had limited opportunities. Initially affiliated with the University of Mysore, the college later became affiliated with Hassan University following the establishment of the university.
Since its inception, the institution has steadily grown in academic strength, infrastructure, and student enrolment while maintaining its commitment to inclusive and student-centred education. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Commerce, Business Administration, Computer Applications, and related disciplines, helping students develop professional competence and leadership skills suited to the changing demands of society and industry.
