Loyola Higher Primary School, Mundgod

Loyola Higher Primary School, Mundgod, was established in 1991 under the pioneering leadership of Fr. Lawrence Pinto, SJ, with an initial enrolment of just 34 students. The school was founded by the Karnataka Jesuits in response to the educational needs of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities of Mundgod Taluk, one of the most backward regions of Uttara Kannada district.

The Jesuits, while engaged in social and pastoral work among the rural poor, recognised that lack of educational opportunities, poor transportation facilities, seasonal migration, and widespread illiteracy were preventing children from accessing formal education. In response, Loyola Higher Primary School was established with a vision of bringing quality education and holistic development to children from marginalized communities, especially the Siddhis, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Communities in the region.

Located about two kilometres from Mundgod town in the serene surroundings of Salagaon village, the school forms part of the larger Loyola Educational Institutions campus, which later expanded to include Loyola High School, Loyola PU College, and Loyola Kendriya Vidyalaya (CBSE).

Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of education inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the school is committed to forming students who are intellectually competent, emotionally balanced, spiritually grounded, and socially responsible. The institution promotes the Jesuit ideals of conscience, competence, compassion, and commitment while fostering constitutional values such as equality, justice, human dignity, solidarity, and brotherhood.

Over the years, Loyola Higher Primary School has become a beacon of hope for rural and tribal communities by combining academic learning with value education, leadership formation, discipline, and community living. The school also encourages students to participate in cultural, environmental, and co-curricular activities that contribute to their integral growth.

Today, the institution continues its mission of empowering young minds through quality education and remains a significant educational ministry of the Karnataka Jesuit Province in northern Karnataka.
